Kindergarten Experience - First Period


Institution Report


Juana de Ibarbourou Institute is a private school incorporated to the official education which depends of the province of Buenos Aires and it is situated in Gregorio de Laferrrere, La Matanza.

The community of the institution is composed by families of four or five members. Most of its students´ parents are Argentinian, however, a huge percentage of their grandparents are Paraguayan and Bolivian.

There is only one section of kindergarten in the morning shift and in the afternoon shift which is in charge of a kindergarten teacher, a teacher of Art, a teacher of English, a teacher of P.E. and a teacher of Music. Children in this section are between 4 and 5 years old.
       
The primary level is composed by four sections of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year, two sections of 5th year and three sections of 6th year in the morning and afternoon shifts. Each section is in charge of a teacher, an Art teacher, an English teacher, a P.E. teacher and a Music teacher.

     
Juana de Ibarbourou is not a bilingual school. Nevertheless, from 4th form of the primary school to 6th form of secondary school. the students have access to workshops of French and Oral English. These workshops are of 50 minutes weekly.

       
The team of authorities believes in an open leadership, giving assessment, generating innovating projects and supporting the teaching and learning process to their teachers and students. The team is characterized by the decisions they take and the way of organizing different activities even with few resources.

      
Group Report





This group of five years old is the only section of kindergarten in this institution in the morning shift. Most of the studetns have been in nurseries but they haven´t had any kind of experience with the language, therefore this term is their first experience with English lessons.

In consequence, their level of English is beginners. They know greetings, colours and numbers from one to ten. They work with a kind of book made of photocopies from material taken from different bibliographies. The students are expected to deal with one activity each lesson and the students´ parents are shown these activities every two months in a meeting with the teacher.


The English teacher in charge of the group delivers her lessons mostly in L1 and use the "sandwich repetition method" every time she wants to present new words in English. The children are usually sitting in groups at tables. The kindergarten teacher always shares the lessons with the English teacher.
